Kansas City has experimented on wide receiver Kadarius Toney and his potential role on offense.
The former 2021 first-round pick was seen lining up as a running back during the Chiefs training camp practice at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri on Sunday.
Toney was spotted receiving a toss and running up the field with the ball.
The former Giants first-round pick was spotted lining up as a running back during the early days of Kansas City’s 2024 training camp.
Toney’s roster spot isn’t a sure thing when looking at the Chiefs wide receiver depth chart.
Kansas City signed Marquise Brown and drafted Xavier Worthy in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
During the drill, Toney was lined up ahead of running backs Carston Steele, former Rugby star Louis Rees-Zammit, and Emani Bailey.
Toney had a disappointing season with the Chiefs last season.
He recorded just 27 catches for 169 yards and one touchdown.
Toney also dropped 12.9 percent of his passes which was the 11-highest rate among wideouts with 30 or more targets in 2023.

Kansas City has used Toney’s speed in the running game in the past.
During Tony’s 20-game career with the Chiefs, he has 16 rushing attempts for 90 yards, which is 5.6 yards per carry.
Last season, Toney took in 18 of his 236 snaps in the backfield.
The Chiefs have won two straight Super Bowls with Toney on the squads.

Despite his rough stretches with Kansas City, he had a productive game in the team’s Super Bowl win in 2023.
The former New York Giant recorded a Super Bowl-record 65-yard punt return in the fourth quarter.
Toney then caught a fourth-quarter touchdown that helped the Chiefs take the lead.
Kansas City went on to beat the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35.
Toney didn’t appear in the Chiefs’ playoff run last season due to a hip injury.
He created controversy during an Instagram live broadcast in which he claimed he was not hurt and that Kansas City was falsely putting him on the injury report while adding a “personal reasons” designation for him.
Toney later apologized but didn’t deny his previous comments.
The Chiefs declined his fifth-year option in May.
Toney would’ve earned $14.3 million in 2025 if the franchise picked up the fifth-year option.
