The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and his wife returned to his alma mater on Aug. 23
Patrick Mahomes is making an impact on his alma mater.
On Friday, Aug. 23, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, joined by his wife Brittany Mahomes, visited Texas Tech University and toured the athletic department’s new facilities — which were partly made possible thanks to a generous gift from Patrick and Brittany, both 28.
Patrick shared an Instagram video showing moments from their visit, which included touring the facilities and meeting the student-athletes who are part of the inaugural Team Mahomes NIL class.
The couple donated $5 million toward the $242 million South End Zone and Dustin R. Womble Football Center project. The walkthrough area of the facility will be named after him, along with the university’s quarterback meeting room and the offensive coordinator’s office.
During his visit, he also announced the signing of six student-athletes to NIL deals with Adidas for Patrick’s initiative aptly called Team Mahomes.
Adidas and Texas Tech previously announced in July the partnership, making the athletic brand the official uniforms, footwear, apparel and accessory partner for the university.

Football player Micah Hudson, softball player NiJaree Canady, basketball player Jasmine Shavers, golfer Matthew Comegys, soccer player Sam Courtwright and baseball player TJ Pompey were surprised by the Super Bowl champion’s appearance and received personalized gifts.
Patrick began fundraising for the center when he was a freshman at Texas Tech, so coming back with his donation was a special full-circle moment for the quarterback. The fundraiser for the athletic department has since exceeded its goal of $100 million to $115 million.

“We couldn’t be prouder to announce this gift from Patrick and Brittany Mahomes. We are so proud of Patrick for all he has accomplished and how he has continually supported Texas Tech on a global scale,” Texas Tech Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt said in press release.

To round out his visit, Patrick surprised the Texas Tech Red Raiders football team and presented them with new uniforms for their upcoming season.
Head coach Joey McGuire said that “There isn’t a greater ambassador for Texas Tech Athletics than Patrick Mahomes,” as per Texas Tech’s website.

“He is arguably the best brand in sports, not only for his success on the field but for what he and his family do off it.”
Patrick and Brittany’s visit to Texas Tech comes two weeks before the Chief’s first regular season game on Sept. 5 against the Baltimore Ravens.
