The former NBA star, who was married to Khloe Kardashian, and the famed Olympian, who was married to Kris Jenner, announced last week that they are reuniting for a sports podcast titled Keeping Up With Sports.
The show’s name is a very obvious tribute to Keeping Up With The Kardashians, and will see the pair working together again for the first time since they appeared on shows alongside their famous reality TV family.
However, it appears they have done little to prepare their former spouses for the new business move, with a source telling DailyMail.com: ‘The family was blindsided by this and they feel that they are absolutely going to be discussed on the podcast.
‘The only things they could possibly have in common is that they are both Kardashian family outcasts.
‘Caitlyn will do anything to try and upstage Kris or get under her skin, but this is the most bizarre one ever.
‘Caitlyn is devastated over her shattered relationship with the kids that she helped raise but she knows it is partly her own fault.’
The insider added: ‘Lamar, too, knows that it is his fault for losing Khloe yet still, to this day, talks about her.’
The basketball star, 44, raised eyebrows last week when he left a public comment on his ex-wife’s birthday post for her reclusive brother, Rob Kardashian.
He wrote, ‘My Family’, underneath the lengthy post which saw Khloe gush about her brother and ‘the relationship that our children get to have.’
Lamar and Rob famously had a close bond while filming episodes of the short-lived spin-off series, Khloe & Lamar between 2011 and 2012.
However, their relationship suffered after Khloe and Lamar split due to his drug use and infidelity.
The source claimed that Lamar’s recent attempts to rebuild a relationship with the family could be damaged by the podcast.
‘Lamar just commented “my family” on a birthday post that Khloe did for her brother Rob, which goes to show were his head is,’ the insider stated.
‘He has it in his mind that he actually may one day get back together with her and will spend his life trying to.’
They continued: ‘But doing a podcast with Caitlyn is not the way. Everyone knows it will get ratings for like a second then tank.
‘If not by their own doing, Kris will have it shut down behind the scenes.’
Caitlyn, 74, was Khloe’s stepfather while Lamar was married to the reality star and the two each starred on multiple seasons of popular E! reality show Keeping Up With The Kardashians together.
Their surprising joint venture will take a ‘fresh look’ at what it takes to be the best in different athletic fields.
The two certainly know about being at the top of their respective sports as Caitlyn, formerly known as Bruce, won a gold medal for decathlon at the 1976 Olympics and was considered by many to be the greatest athlete at the time.
Lamar, meanwhile, had a very successful 14-season NBA career, winning two championships with the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons – and even earned the Sixth Man of the Year award in 2011.
The two sports stars will be joined by co-host Zach Hirsch on the podcast, which will premiere in the next few weeks.
According to TMZ, their inaugural guest is boxing great Sugar Ray Leonard as a clip they obtained shows the 67-year-old former athlete speaking candidly about being a victim of sexual abuse at the hands of one of his trainers.
The last time Caitlyn and Lamar were pictured together was at Kanye West’s Yeezy Season 3 event and The Life Of Pablo listening party at Madison Square Garden in New York City back in February 2016.
The event famously was Lamar’s first public outing since a nearly fatal overdose in October 2015 after he was found unconscious in a Nevada brothel.
Lamar and Khloe married in 2009 after just 30 days of knowing one another. They ultimately split in 2013, with their divorce finalized on December 9, 2016.
Before and after announcing his retirement from professional basketball in 2014, Lamar would often find himself in the news for the wrong reasons.
In 2013, he was arrested for driving under the influence and was thought to have been abusing drugs.
At the time, he had also been married to Khloe for five years, since 2009, and the couple’s publicized marriage was even part of a show called Khloe & Lamar in 2011 before it was cancelled a year later because it had ‘worn down’ the basketball star.
Two years later, in 2013, after months of speculated separation, Khloe filed for divorce and for legal restoration of her last name.
The divorce was signed by both parties in July 2015 but did not receive final approval from a judge before being dismissed by request in October 2015, the same month that Lamar was found in a comatose in a Nevada brothel after taking a deadly mix of cocaine, alcohol, and a sexual stimulant.
The ex-NBA player was hooked on life support at a Las Vegas hospital and only regained consciousness three days later.
He was eventually transferred to a LA hospital and Kardashian decided to withdraw her request for divorce, citing that she wanted to support her estranged husband in making medical decisions during his recovery.
Lamar fully recuperated from the near fatal overdose three months later, in January 2016, before Khloe filed for divorce again in May of that year. Their separation was finalized in December 2016.
Back in October Caitlyn revealed that she no longer communicates with ex-wife Kris, 68, despite 22 years of marriage and welcoming two children together – Kendall, 28, and Kylie, 26.
On tying the knot with Kris in 1991, Caitlyn became the stepfather of her children whom she welcomed with late attorney Robert Kardashian: Kourtney, 44, Kim, 42, Khloe, and also Rob, 36. Robert died in 2003 from esophageal cancer.
The former couple finalized their divorce in 2015, the same year Caitlyn came out as transgender.
