Will there be a second Tonali?
The question is whether AC Milan can do the same thing as they did with Sandro Tonali last summer, by selling a pillar in exchange for a large sum of money to carry out many deals. potential and keep the balance sheet stable.
The leading candidates will be Mike Maignan, Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao. The Portuguese winger is considered a reasonable choice but is also unlikely to leave. In theory, he is the easiest person to replace. Milan could easily find someone to play consistently, albeit with a lesser reputation, for half the price they could sell for.
Injuries have caused the Rossoneri to lose form, but they still have three elite midfielders. Perhaps one of them could be the choice for this purpose. If the board does that, the decision will not entirely belong to Milan but will depend on the offers.
The best path
Milan needs more rookies to bring the squad closer to Inter, but it doesn’t necessarily require an overhaul. They should not underestimate the potential of young players, who will gradually improve on their own as they mature. They have a role model named Yacine Adli.
Noah Okafor and especially Samuel Chukwueze did not live up to expectations, although Okafor did not perform too poorly in his role as super sub. And the Nigerian player is really a disappointment. Furthermore, it’s hard to imagine Milan recouping its investment without using a complex formula like the one with De Ketelaere.
That was also the case with Yunus Musah, who was younger and less experienced. It feels like the Rossoneri have never found a suitable position for the American, especially since their formation favors a 4-2-3-1 rather than a 4-3-3.
As for the other key recruits, Ruben Loftus-Cheek has been excellent. They need a better back-up option as Tommaso Pobega may possess similar qualities but is prone to injury. Tijjani Reijnders has fallen off a bit recently but has remained a consistent mainstay for much of the season. Meanwhile, whether Luka Jovic stays or leaves depends on Olivier Giroud.
Milan’s veterans
Simon Kjaer’s contract is about to expire and will most likely leave. They won’t need to find a replacement. Milan would have been in better form if not for injuries that took away Fikayo Tomori, Malick Thiaw and Pierre Kalulu at the same time. Matteo Gabbia is also playing quite well. The Rossoneri have some exciting young players in Jan-Carlo Simic and Alex Jimenez, who could stay and gain experience if Milan need a backup plan.
Davide Calabria and Alessandro Florenzi probably won’t leave. However, upgrading to the right back position is advisable, as both can start on the left wing. However, it will cost a fairly large amount of money. If not, they should also look for a truly classy left-back. It will help when Hernandez is pushed into midfield.
Additional additions may appear
Ismael Bennacer had a disappointing season due to a previous knee injury. However, his recent performances prove that the Algerian midfielder is still useful. Adli could become a conductor in the future, but Milan doesn’t have anyone else to back up. The midfield should be reinforced by one or two more pieces without any names leaving.
In attack, Milan seems to intend to add a striker. They seem to have to empty their coffers to find the right person, but that will most likely happen. Then it wouldn’t be necessary to keep both Giroud and Jovic and have three for one position. The French veteran may be old, but he will be a strategic reserve. The Rossoneri will probably let Giroud decide his own future and then make a suitable move for the Serbian striker.
