Cole Palmer is Chelsea’s rookie this season. He was recruited by the Blues from Man City for £42.5 million.
Football Insider reported that Chelsea really wants to keep Palmer long-term after he suddenly became the club’s number one striker. This young talent has scored 14 goals and added 12 assists in 34 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions. In particular, Palmer can play flexibly as a virtual striker or on the wing.
Chelsea wants to “plan” Palmer to become a pillar of the team in the future . To that end, the report says he is expected to receive a significant pay rise if a new deal is signed, which would significantly improve Palmer’s current weekly salary (£75,000 – according to FBRef).
Chelsea has spent more than 1 billion pounds on new recruits since Todd Boehly took over the team. However, experts assess that Palmer is the one who is truly “worth the money”.
Paul Merson told Sky Sports: “Cole Palmer is a really good signing, but I’m not sure there is much more (at Chelsea)”.
